PURPOSE:To obtain a heat and solvent resistant microcapsulated flame retardant by coating a hydrophobic flame retardant core material, which is liquid at room temperature, with a film made from a polymer obtained by the reaction between multivalent isocyanate and water, melamine-formaldehyde resin, etc. CONSTITUTION:A flame retardant comprising a hydropholic substance which is liquid at room temperature and not compatible with water, such as an organohalogen compound and organophosphorus compound is used as a core substance to be microcapsulated. The core substance is coated with a film of a composite comprising a polymer obtained by the addition polymerization between multivalent isocyanate and water and a melamine-formaldehyde resin or its modification. The microcapsulated flame retardant thus obtained has high heat and solvent resistances, controlling the diffusion and evaporation of the flame retardant. |
