The invention relates to a peripheral unit (51, 52, 53) for processing various kinds of documents, preferably though not exclusively, in a banking environment, as well as in postal or other administration. The technical problem solved is to desing a unit able to process in optimum manner both generic documents and cheques, that can accept various auxiliary arrangements, taking up minimum space. The unit (51, 52, 53) comprises a base unit (54) with a document path (67), to processing documents (61), fitted with a cheque unit (56) with a cheque path (220) to process cheques (62). On the base unit (54) can also be fitted various auxilary arrangements (57, 58, 59) all controlled by a main control unit (76), and, similarly, the cheque unit (56) can be fitted with other optional arrangements (228, 229, 230, 231), all controlled by a secondary control unit (222) connected to the main one (76). Selective connection means connect the cheque path (220) to the document path (67) in order to allow for the transferring of the cheques (62) from the cheque unit (56) to the base unit (54) and vice versa. |
