Skidding is detected by a control unit (2) from individual wheel speeds input by sensors (C1,C2,C3,C4) via an interface (1). A driver-operated change-over relay (6,4) selects one of two logic unit (7,8) as controller. The "comfort" unit (7) intervenes at lower wheel slip rates than the "sport" unit (8), relying less on driver's skills. Corrective brake (AF) and motorised throttle (ACM) signals are issued via the interface (1). The same relay (6,4) imposes a corresponding suspension operating mode on a suspension controller (3) and reference selector (5). Sensor signals representing significant dynamic variables (AAV, AAR, etc.) are compared (CA) with higher or lower threshold values, corresponding to "sport" and "comfort" modes, respectively, from the selector (5), the controller (3) applying "hard" (FF) or "soft" (S) suspension mode, according to the resulting differentials.
