The steering wheel hub (6) is held on the steering shaft (8) by an axial end screw (9). Toothed engagement rings (14,m15) transmit torque to the shaft. The hub rotates on ball bearings (18) at the top of the tubular casing (7) enclosing the shaft. Electrical items rotating with the steering wheel are wired through a connector block (24) to a multi-core cable (16) coiled spirally down the shaft (8), within the casing, from which it emerges through an aperture (25). The spiral tightens or slackens as the wheel is turned, without impeding rotation. The remaining annular spaces are filled with a compressible material (22) to prevent rattle and protect the cable. Components mounted on the fixed binnacle (17) are connected through cables (16',16") clipped (34) externally to the casing.
