The procedure consists of making a recess (5) in a main panel (1) along the line of a second panel (2) to be fixed to it, removing the gel-coat from the main panel and slightly exposing its inner structural layer. The edges of the recess (5) and the second panel are then chamfered, and a groove (3) is cut along the centre of the second panel's edge. A resin adhesive is applied to the recess in the main panel, and the panels are fitted together and held in place by a clamp while the adhesive polymerises. The adhesive can be applied with a gun in a layer of a suitable thickness (0.5-4 mm), and if it forms a bead on the outside of the joint this can be removed before setting.
