The diesel pile-driver has a cylinder (10) which contains a striker piston. In the cylinder are provided work slots (28) for emission of combustion gases and for sucking in fresh air. On the cylinder is a fuel injection pump (20) operated by the striker piston in the lower section of its drop path. In the lower end of the cylinder is a tightly position striker piece (12) and with a lifting device provided with a linear drive for mechanically raising the striker piston, which has a driver head (48) running on a guide (50) parallel to the cylinder axis. The driver (46) working in conjunction with a stop surface (18) on the striker piston and which is movable in and out of the path of the striker piston.
