The cable paying out device has a pair of parallel rollers (3,4) between which the cable is fed, with their axes perpendicular to the horizontal cable disc from which the cable is payed out by rotation about its central axis. The spacing (d) between the mantle surfaces (5,6) of the rollers varies in the direction of the roller axes (7, 8(, with a min. spacing at the roller ends. Pref. the mantle surface of at least one roller is concave, the cable disc supported by a wheeled chassis with the rollers mounted at its rear.
