Valve seat checking gauge with wide range dimensional capability

A gauge for checking the metal removal/revised dimensions of valve seats after precision grinding has a telescopic construction to suit different sizes of valve. A stem (12) slides in a bushed (11) measuring tube (10) supported with axially adjustable movement w.r.t. an external cylinder (9)/foot (8) and carries an exchangeable measuring head (14) of profile to match the seat (4) being measured. The stem (12) is spring-loaded downwards w.r.t. the tube (10) by the spring (12a) and cap (21) to maintain head (14) contact with the seat (4) during measurements. A Vernier scale (18) is inscribed in the slot (17) of the cylinder (9) and a clamp (19) locates a dial gauge (22) for direct readings of metal removed.
