Incineration of sewage sludge giving ash useful as fertiliser

Process for incineration of sewage sludge comprises (a) dewatering the sludge by mixing with a predetermined amt. of absorptive cellulose fibre material (I) until the content of dry matter is at least 55%; (b) mixing with another material (II) to utilise the energy content of the mixt., so that the mixed prod. has a calorific value of at least 11000 kJ/kg; and (c) incineration at a temp. of a least 800 deg C.
