A security device that permits a protected audio device on standby for playback to start if identification data in a memory agrees with data stored on the recording medium in the audio device, comprising first mode switching means for switching said device to a medium identification mode where identification data can be stored in the memory, and identification data storing means for storing data in the memory containing no identification data in the medium identification mode, the data being read from the recording medium in playback mode.
