Process and assembly secures onions on pricks before cutting and release of small pieces

A process and assembly whole onions are cut into segments, cut into slices, or chopped into cubes. Each onion (4) is held in a cup and secured by the insertion of a number of pricks (3) directed to the centre of the cup before the onion is cut left and right of but just short of each prick, to leave a portion of onion (4') on the respective prick. The novelty is that after cutting those pieces of onion which are not secured by a prick are removed and chopped up. The pieces of onion remaining on the pricks are then removed from the pricks and are then transported by conveyor belt to the next processing stage.
