<p>The mould for casting thin slabs with improved surface quality consists of two cooled broad-side walls and two narrow-side walls. In the region of the pouring pipe entry, the broad-side walls have a speed-out which gradually and smoothly, with maximum possible radii, merges into a rectangular mould cross section over a distance downwards equal to about 75% of the mould length. The maximum ratio of the greatest clear mould width (measured in the direction of the slab thickness) at the melt level to the mould width at the slab exit level is limited to a value from 1.3 to 1.5.</p> |
