摘要 A process for carrying out continuous exothermic reactions between liquid phase and gaseous phase reagents, e.g. the sulphonation of dodecylbenzene or higher alcohols with SO3 diluted with SO2 and air, comprises passing a liquid reagent through a plurality of reactors in series, to which a diluted gaseous reagent is fed in parallel. The concentration of sulphur trioxide may vary from 15% in the first reactor to 2% in the last, and is preferably at least 7% in the first reactor and not more than 10% in the last reactor. In Fig. 1 (not shown), the gas mixture is fed from line 10 to reactors 1, 2, 3 and 4 through valves 11, 12, 13 and 14. Further diluting gas is added by lines 21, 22 and 23 downstream of the valves which are so adjusted that the proportions of the total quantity of SO3 reaching the reactors are 40%, 30%, 20% and 10% respectively of the total theoretical amount of SO3 necessary to effect complete sulphonation. In Fig. 2 (not shown), diluting gas from lines 211, 221 and 231 is fed into line 10 upstream of the exits to valves 12, 13 and 14, so that the dilution of the gas mixture is cumulative.
