<p>PURPOSE:To eliminate tape damage and to obtain a rotary head device in which stable recording and reproducing are performed from the input side of a drum to the output side by specifying the ratio between the width of the groove made on the rotary drum and the groove pitch. CONSTITUTION:In the rotary head device, in which a circumferential speed v of the rotary drum satisfies 6<=v<=14m/s, letting w be the groove width of a groove 2 provided on a rotary drum 1, p be a groove pitch and the groove 2, is provided with a relationship 4<=S<=9 (S=p/w). Having this constitution, the thickness of air film, which is formed by the air suction between a magnetic tape and the drum 1 caused by the high speed rotation of the drum 1, is kept to be an optimum value by the groove 2 and the contact between the magnetic head and the magnetic tape at the drum input side is secured. Moreover, an adequate air film thickness is kept at the drum output side, no tape damage occurs and stable recording and reproducing are conducted.</p> |
