PURPOSE:To shorten the waiting time at the start of the execution of compression and restoration processing and to omits restoration processing for programs which are not used at all in the case where the data processing system executes a program in a compressed format stored in a secondary storage device such as a magnetic disk. CONSTITUTION:Bit information showing whether or not a page is in a compressed state is provided in the page table entry of a main storage device by pages of a virtual storage mechanism. In the case where data which are compressed is accessed, an interruption control unit 411 initiates an interruption based on the readout result of the compression bit 425 of an address conversion buffer TLB to restore the compressed data.
