PURPOSE:To obtain a drive of an air conditioner for a long period by providing stopping time altering means for counting a driving time of a compressor and extending a drive inhibiting time if the drive integrated time calculated by the counting exceeds a predetermined time. CONSTITUTION:An air conditioner sets a drive inhibiting time to 2min as an initial setting. Then, whether an integrated drive time of a compressor 1 counted by a timer is less than 20,000 hours or not is judged, and if the time is less than 20,000 hours, the inhibiting time is set to 2min, while if the time is 20,000 hours or more, the inhibiting time is altered to 3min by stopping time altering means. A room temperature detected by a room temperature detector 6 and a temperature set by a room temperature setter 7 are input to a microcomputer 5, and if the fact that the room temperature is lower than the set temperature is judged, a relay 8 is turned OFF to stop the compressor 1. Then, the stopping time of the compressor 1 is counted by the timer, the timer is set after the counted time is elapsed, and returned to its initial value. Accordingly, it can endure against a long-term operation.
