PURPOSE:To ensure a drive of an air conditioner for a long term by providing stopping time altering means for extending a stopping time when indoor and outdoor temperatures exceed a predetermined temperature by counting number of times of drive of a compressor due to a discharge temperature rise within a predetermined time. CONSTITUTION:An air conditioner inputs an indoor temperature detected by an indoor temperature detector 8 to a microcomputer 6. If the indoor temperature is a set room temperature or higher previously set in an indoor temperature setter 9, an outdoor temperature detected by an outdoor temperature detector 10 is input to a microcomputer 7. If the outdoor temperature is higher than the set outdoor temperature, counting of a drive integrated time is started. Number of stops of drive of the compressor 1 counted by a counter 12 within its counting time is input to the microcomputer 6. When the number is less than three times within the counting time, it is stopped for 2 min, while if it is three or more times within the counting, it is stopped for 3min by a drive control driver 5. After the drive integrated time is elapsed, it is returned to its initial. Accordingly, it can endure against a long-term drive.
