PURPOSE:To reduce defective orientation, to enhance uniformity in orientation and to improve the contrast ratio by using a rubbing cloth with the fluff which is inclining by specific angle with the vertical of the base cloth and rubbing a substrate in the inclining direction of the fluff. CONSTITUTION:The inclination theta of the fluff 2 of a rubbing cloth 1 to vertical is controlled to 10-60 deg., and a substrate 1 is rubbed by the cloth 1 in the same direction as the inclining direction. Namely, the cloth 1 moves to the right in the traveling direction 4 of the cloth 1 when the fluff 2 is inclined to the left by the angle of theta from the cloth 1, and, conversely, a glass substrate 3 is moved to the left. Consequently, the substrate is rubbed by the fluff 2 of the cloth 1 as if it were swept by a broom. The fluff is caught by the substrate 3 and flipped when the substrate is rubbed in the opposite direction, and hence defective orientation is unfavorably caused. |
