A voltage regulation system includes a single phase a.c. supply and an a.c. busbar, connected to the single phase a.c. supply, having at least one variable load connected thereto. A pair of rectifier/converters are adapted to convert a.c. power to d.c. power and vice versa and an energy storage component is connected to the d.c. busbar. Thus in periods of low load, excess energy supplied to the a.c. busbar from the a.c. supply is transferred via a first of the pair of rectifier/converters to the d.c. busbar and stored in the energy storage means, and, in periods of high load, the energy previously stored in the energy storage component is transferred via a second of the rectifier/converters to the a.c. busbar, supplementing the energy supply to the load. |
