CONTACT MATERIAL AND MANUFACTURE THEREOF

Contact material of the type in question, in particular in biological water treatment, must provide optimal support for the "biological lawn" required for this purpose and be uniformly wettable. With known striplike contact material it was found that the strips become smooth under load and consequently provide poor support for the "biological lawn" and tend to stick together. The novel contact material has at least one tension element attached to the strips. This tension element takes the strain in the suspended state, leaving the strips essentially unstrained and retaining their profiling conferred upon them in the course of manufacture.
