<p>PURPOSE: To eliminate the need for machining the bottom of a pump housing or providing a partition between the high and low pressure regions of a pump chamber, to minimize the crossing loss of fluid in a pump, and to eliminate the need for the bottom of the pump to have a stripper portion. CONSTITUTION: This fuel pump 10 has a pump housing encasing a rotary pumping element 18 which forms two non-communicating chambers comprising an inlet chamber 26a communicating with a fuel inlet 32 and an outlet chamber 26b communicating with a fuel outlet 22. The pumping element 18 has a ring portion 60 along an outer circumference, a plurality of vanes 56 around an inner circumference radially inward of the ring portion, and a plurality of axially extending flow passages 62 located radially between the vanes 56 and the ring portion 60. Fuel is fed from the fuel inlet to the outlet chamber and from the inlet chamber to the fuel outlet through the fuel flow passages in the pumping element.</p> |
