PURPOSE: To extract an irregular and comparatively distinct object from the irregular and comparatively indistinct object which occupies a part of an original picture. CONSTITUTION: The edge part of the object is extracted from the original picture, an object contour is tracked, a previously fixed data point on the object contour is position-selected, the specified area of the object is identified in the original picture through the use of the identified data point and a comparatively distinct feature is extracted from the identified area. The original picture is made to be a digital or digitized radiophic picture consisting of a part of the arms and the legs of a patient, the object is adopted as a hand or a wrist and skeletal structure growth (skeletal age) where the feature is made to be a bone in the hand or/and the wrist is evaluated so that then classification of skeletal contours extracted from the picture is compared with the reference sample bone for evaluating skeletal growth and classification is executed in relation to it. |
