PURPOSE:To provide an electronic dictionary device which can easily perform dictionary retrieval, using a character string having character constitution similar to a previously retrieved character string, in a short retrieval time. CONSTITUTION:This electronic dictionary device is equipped with an input part 10 which inputs a character string for retrieval of a 1st language, a character string correcting means which generates a corrected character string for retrieval by specifying a character string range to be diverted in the character string for retrieval and then converting the characters at the tail into desired characters, an index storage part 21 which arrays and holds index words of the 1st language, a dictionary storage part 22 which stores equivalents of a 2nd language corresponding to the index words, a retrieval means which decides whether the corrected character string for retrieval is positioned in front of or behind the character string for retrieval, retrieves an index word form the position corresponding to the character string for retrieval in said direction, and extracts the corresponding equivalent from the dictionary storage part 22 when the index word including the character string matching the corrected character string for retrieval is detected, and the display means which displays the equivalent. |
