Organic fibrous materials are rendered rot resistant by a process comprising (a) preparing an emulsion or solution of a thio organo lead compound R 3 PbSR wherein R is alkyl, aryl or cycloalkyl, (b) impregnating the fibrous material, (c) removing excess thio organo lead medium and (d) drying. The preferred lead compounds are thiomethyltriphenyllead, thioethyltriphenyllead and thiopropyltriphenyllead. The organic fibrous material may be cotton, rayon, ramie, jute, wool, paper or paperboard.</p> |
