The bar assembly has two adjacent bars (1,2) which are joined together by welding the end (10) of one to the end (20) of the other. The end of the first bar (1) has a flat inner surface (12) and a curved outer surface (11), while the second bar (2) has a curved end (20) with a straight edge (21) for welding to the first bar. The ends of the bars are not rounded prior to welding, leaving recesses (13,22) which can be filled with the weld seams.
