The setting comprises a hollow (1) with shoulders (3) and projections (2) against which a male piece (7) rests. The upper part of the setting is bent inwards (4) and holds the stone (6) in the hollow by its crown. The hollow can hold one or several stones. The stone is placed in the hollow and the male piece is then inserted by using a tool. This presses the male piece against the collet and exerts a force which progressively deforms the male piece until it is in contact with the shoulders.
