The device has a body (10) with fixing pieces (11) which allows attachment of a storage roller (12) to one of either the interior surface (F1) and lower part of the vehicle tail gate (H), and seat back. The roller has an automatic rewind mechanism. An acceleration detector (13) is provided to sense the tangential acceleration of the storage roller, and a locking system (14) is controlled by this detector. This acts to lock the storage roller when its acceleration reaches a predetermined threshold level. The device includes a flexible and almost non elastic retaining element and an attachment mechanism (30).
