A cover tape comprising a tape-like base material 1, adhesive parts 2 formed on one side of the base material 1 at both edges along the longitudinal direction thereof, and a non-adhesive resin part 3 formed between the adhesive parts 2 and having the same thickness as that of the adhesive parts 2. The tape is used to collectively pack electronic components and other small items while keeping them separate from each other in compartments of a carrier tape 11 to thereby permit the storage, transportation and automatic takeout thereof. A coating applicator, for use in the production of the cover tape, comprises wide discharge nozzles 110, 111 to apply both the adhesive and the non-adhesive coatings simultaneously. Discharge is effected by displacement-type rotary pumps 113, 114. The non-adhesive part need not cover the whole of the area between the adhesive parts, and may comprise dots, a lattice or an S shape.
