Harvested crop stalk preparation machine

The stalk preparation machine has two or more contra-rotating rollers (1,2) working together and driven at different peripheral speeds. Each roller consists at least partly of wedge-section disc portions (5,6,7), by which they fit together. The cone faces on one roller at least can be profiled, and where both are profiled they can have mating profiled portions. One roller can be fixed in position and the other adjustable. The rollers can be driven at speeds to match the travel speed of the mat-forming machine or the speed of a preceding or following mechanism such as a pick-up or press.
