A liquid ring vacuum pump has a rotor mounted on a driving shaft (3) that extends outwards through at least one wall of the pump housing (1) and that is sealed at its leadthrough (4) by a sealing element (5). In order to prevent the sealing arrangement from wearing, the sealing element (5) has at least one conical sealing lip (7) with a sealing edge (8) radially oriented outwards. The leadthrough (4) has a sealing surface that extends perpendicularly to the axis of the driving shaft (3) and the sealing element (5) is arranged on the shaft (3) in such a way that, when the vacuum pump is at a standstill, the sealing edge (8) lies on a spot of the sealing surface of the leadthrough (4) that is radially spaced from the inner circumference of the leadthrough (4).
