The cable harness of an internal combustion (IC) engine is mounted together with a terminal socket in which a plug of a cable tree which is not part of the engine. The cable tree (15) is preassembled with cable shoes and the terminal socket (14). The cable tree (15) is connected to the light machine (8) with the appropriate cable strand (16). The socket (14) is fastened to the alternator (8) or a component part. Finally, the light machine (8) is mounted in the engine and the cable shoes are plugged onto plug flags of measuring probes (10, 11, 12).
