PROCESS FOR PRODUCING HIGHER CYANOACETIC ESTER

A higher cyanoacetic ester NCCH2COOR' (wherein R' represents C4-C20 alkyl) is produced by the transesterification between a cyanoacetic ester NCCH2COOR<1> (wherein R<1> represents C1-C3 alkyl) and an alcohol R'OH (wherein R' is as defined above) in the presence of a catalyst comprising a specified tin compound. The process enables a higher cyanoacetic ester useful as the intermediates of medecines, agricultural chemicals and industrial products to be produced from inexpensive and readily available cyanoacetic ester and alcohol more simply in a higher yield as compared with the conventional processes.
