A homing pigeon is provided with a ring with an electronic transponder which can be interrogated by means of a radio-frequency field as it arrives at the pigeon coop for the purpose of competition timekeeping in order to store the arrival time correlated with this individual pigeon and to be able to analyse it later for lists of winners. In addition, the pigeon carries a conventional (that is to say not necessarily automatically readable) ring with the registration number of its association. There is no relation between these two data records (electronic identification number and conventional association number) which can be irritating for the owner in his pigeon correlation. This is why a table in which the identification numbers and the association numbers of the pigeons are correlated with one another is additionally fed into the operating device for the contactless radio-frequency interrogation of the identification carrier. The display then does not indicate the electronically detected identification number of the pigeon which has just arrived but the conventional association number familiar to the owner which has been read out of the associated memory table. |
