The winder has a storage container (3) whose base (6) in the form of a rocker activates or deactivates a take-off mechanism for the material (4) to be unwound from a storage roll (2). The take-off track (13) is at an angle ( alpha ) to the vertical (V), and is beside the storage container's base. A deflector roller (14) is at the top of the take-off track which runs inside the storage container, past the top deflector roller, and runs down to the base. The wound material leaves the storage container on a level with its inlet (26).
