Multiple emulsions of the W/O/W type, consisting of a continuous external water phase, an oil phase dispersed therein and a second (inner) water phase dispersed in said oil phase, containing: (a) at least one emulsifier (emulsifier A) selected from the group of emulsifiers, the lipophily of which increases with rising temperature and the hydrophily of which increases as the temperature falls, the emulsifier(s) varying, in the temperature range from 40 to 90 DEG C, from an HLB value of < 10 to one of > 10, the HLB value of the emulsifier(s) at room temperature being between 11 and 18, and preferably between 13 and 14, and the emulsifier is not completely soluble in the oil phase when the oil and water phases are brought together; (b) an oil phase, the basic components of which are selected from the group of physiologically acceptable oils, fats and waxes which individually and/or in combination have an essential HLB value (EHLB) of 10 to 20; and/or in which the basic components of the oil phase are selected from the group of physiologically acceptable polar oils, fats and waxes in which the polarity of the basic component(s) individually or in combination is lower than 30 mN/m (in surface tension units); (d) an outer and an inner water phase where these water phases contain 0.1 to 5 wt % (in relation to the whole composition) of organic and/or inorganic electrolytes with mono, di or trivalent cations; (e) if desired, other auxiliaries and/or additives, the primary purpose of which is to stabilise the multiple emulsion droplets after their in situ formation which can be worked into the oil and/or water phases; (f) if desired, other common cosmetic or medical basic, auxiliary, additional and/or active agents which can be worked into the oil and/or water phases.
