A tubeless pneumatic tyre casing 1 encloses a cushion 5 of elastomeric material which comprises a plurality of circumferentially spaced, transversely extending independent inflated cylindrical chambers 5a, the cushion being bonded to, or forming an air-tight seal with, the lower sidewall regions and defining with the casing a radially outer air space 7 which is inflatable by a valve 8 communicating with a radial passage 15 through the cushion. The inner periphery of the cushion has an embedded reinforcement 9 and seats on a bead-spacing ring 10 to which it is secured by a valve stem clamping nut 12. Additionally the ring 10 is located against relative rotation with the two-part rim 4a, 4b by radially inwardly projecting inner peripheral lugs 18 engaging slots 19 in the rim part 4b. To ensure initial inflation of space 7 the outer periphery of the cushion has recesses 16 therein communicating with passage 15. French Specification 538,459 is referred to. |
