PURPOSE:To obtain a water-soluble lubricating agent for metal processing containing a specific ester, etc., resistant to microbial deterioration and excellent in long-time stability of cutting ability, liquid property and lubricating function. CONSTITUTION:This water-soluble lubricating agent contains (A) preferably 5-90 pts.wt. (based on 100 pts.wt. of the whole water-soluble lubricating agent for metal processing) of mono- or di-ester obtained from an alkenylsuccinic anhydride and an alkylene oxide adduct of an alkylphenol and (B) preferably 5-90 pts.wt. of a reaction product of component A with formaldehyde in an amount of less than equivalent to the component A. Further, the carbon number of the alkenyl group of the alkenylsuccinic anhydride is 8-80, the carbon number of the alkyl group of the alkylene oxide adduct of the alkylphenol is 4-12, the carbon number of the alkylene group of the adduct is 2-4 and the number of molecules of the alkylene oxide forming adduct to the alkylphenol is 2-50. |
