PURPOSE:To obtain a colorant for use in optical recording media which retains high sensitivity even in high-speed or high-density recording to attain satisfactory recording properties and which is excellent in long-term stability and light resistance by obtaining a specific phthalocyanine compound. CONSTITUTION:One to four phthalonitrile compounds represented by formula I (where R and R' each is a 1-15C saturated hydrocarbon group or a 2-15C unsaturated hydrocarbon group) are mixed with one to four phthalonitrile compounds represented by formula II (wherein R and R' are as defined above and X is a halogen). This mixture is reacted with a Pd compound with heating either in an alcohol in the presence of, e.g. 1, 8-diazabicyclo[5, 4, 0]undecene (DBU) or in a high-boiling solvent such as chloronaphthalene. Thus, this compound is obtained, which is represented by formula III (wherein R<1> to R<8> each is a 1-15C (un)substituted saturated hydrocarbon group or a 2-15C (un)substituted unsaturated hydrocarbon group and X<1> to X<8> each is a halogen or H). One or two layers of one to three compounds comprising this compound are formed on a transparent substrate by coating or vapor deposition to obtain this medium. |
