CATALYTIC HYDRATION OF OLEFIN

PURPOSE:To produce an alcohol by contacting an olefin such as ethylene and propylene with water in the presence of a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:An alcohol corresponding to the charged olefin such as ethylene and propylene is produced by charging water and an olefin in a reactor and reacting the raw materials in the presence of a heterogeneous solid catalyst obtained by the coating treatment of a strongly acidic cation exchange resin having sulfonic acid group bonded to an organic polymer matrix with a perfluorocarbon resin such as a polytetrafluoroethylene resin.
