PURPOSE:To provide a method and a device for treating an organic chlorine compound contained in gas by which the organic chlorine compound is thermally oxidized and decomposed with good decomposition efficiency and also the decomposed gas is treated safely and reliably. CONSTITUTION:In a method for thermally oxidation-decomposing and treating an organic chlorine compound contained in gas, gas containing 1-10% of organic chlorine compound is thermally oxidation-decomposed at 900-950 deg.C for over 2 seconds by indirect heating. Thereafter the thermally oxidation-decomposed gas is brought into contact with an alkali solution. The treating device is equipped with a thermally oxidation-decomposing device provided with a heater 2 for thermally oxidation-decomposing the chlorine compound and a scrubber which scrubs 5 the thermally oxidation-decomposed gas by an alkali solution 6.
