PURPOSE:To enable an external measuring apparatus to determine a communications period according to period signals by providing a means for outputting a synchronous signal to be synchronized with the output timing of state detection data, prior to the output of an output signal. CONSTITUTION:An ECU (electronic control unit) 40, which controls a fuel injection valve 18 and an igniter 19 according to the amount of fuel injection and ignition timing both of which are calculated based on operating conditions, determines whether or not a signal T1 from an external measuring apparatus 50 is on; when the signal is on, the ECU 40 determines whether or not an idle switch 36 is on, and, when the switch 36 is on, an output state of an O2 sensor 35 is stored in a predetermined address of RAM. When the switch 36 is off, the state of a correction factor is stored in a predetermined address of RAM. If the signal T1 is off, the ECU determines whether or not a signal T2 from the external measuring apparatus 50 is on, and, when the signal is on, data for outputting RAM values in the RAM are stored in a predetermined address, and the same operations are repeated.
