<p>PURPOSE: To obtain a filter element having uniform gas permeability and being stable at high temperature by subjecting ceramic fiber or glass fiber having specified properties to heat treatment to give compatibility to the fiber. CONSTITUTION: A woven fabric 14 of ceramic fiber or glass fabric having uniform gas permeability of 1.5 L/M/cm<2> or less at a pressure differential of 127 mm H2 O and being capable of withstanding at least 10,000 cycles in a BallyTM Flexometer test without failure is used. Then, this fabric 14 can maintain integrity at about 1,150 deg.C over a long period of time, and horizontal strands 36 and vertical strands 37 thereof relax and do not substantially have visible spaces or openings between yarns even when magnification is made 7.5. Furthermore, this fabric 14 has at least one open end 13, and at the at least one open end, it is connected to a gas division chamber to form a filter 10.</p> |
