PURPOSE:To obtain a carbonizing type flame-retardant polyester fibers which cause no dripping and has high washing durability. CONSTITUTION:The carbonizing type flame-retardant polyester fibers contain more than 2wt.%, preferably 2 to 10wt.% of a phosphorus compound of formula I (R, R' are alkyl, hydroxypropyl; n is 10 to 15) and can pass the flame- retardancy test according to JIS-L-1091. When the pick-up of the compound of formula I is raised higher, the carbonizing behavior is improved, but the specifications of the retardancy cannot be attained in some cases according to fiber structures. In order to impart stabilized performance, a mixture of the compound of formula I with 30 to 300wt.%, based on formula I, of the compound of formula II is effectively applied. The fibers are produced by (A): treating with a compound of formula I, by (B): treating with a mixture of formula I with formula II, by (C): the treatment (A) followed by the treatment with formula II or treatment (B), by (D): treatment with formula II followed by treatment of (A) or (B). The application of the process according the invention to the fibers prepared by conventional flame-retardancy processing can convert the fibers of the dripping type into the carbonizing one. |
