PURPOSE: To use thinner gauge metal to obtain a ring type packing element of high rigidity by making an attachment means provided at the end part of a strip contacted with each other and bent when a ring is formed contain a tab and a slot reversibly engaged to support the ends with each other when they are placed one upon another. CONSTITUTION: A flap 2 and a slot 4 form an attachment means. Furthermore, a metal strip 10 is formed into a Lessing ring structure, and the metal strip 10 is provided with an expanding member 20 and a slot 40, and the expanding member is formed at an acute angle to the rest of the strip gap when it is bent from the residual metal strip. The slot is arranged in a position in which it gets engaged with tabs 30, and the tabs 30 project from the end apart from the end provided with the expanding member. The flap at the overlapping ends is engaged with the slot at the end below the overlapping ends, and force with which the strip will be straightened holds the locking relation with the flas at the contacted opposite ends.
