PURPOSE: To obtain an anhydrous and stable cosmetic or pharmaceutical composition for skin consisting essentially of retinol and to provide a method for using the cosmetic or pharmacological composition for treating dermatoses, especially acne, keratinization or scar, light-related aging and preventing and alleviating wrinkles. CONSTITUTION: This anhydrous and stable cosmetic or pharmacological composition is a liquid at ambient temperature and characterized by containing retinol solubilized in an organic solvent selected from the group consisting of (i) an aliphatic alcohol having a 16-20C branched chain, (ii) a saturated alkoxylated fatty alcohol having a 16-20C straight-chain or branched chain, (iii) a diester of a 6-14C dicarboxylic acid with isopropyl alcohol and a mixture of the solvents. Furthermore, a two-part package is characterized by comprising the first part containing the composition and the second part containing a well- known cosmetic or pharmaceutical medium and forming a lotion by mixing both the parts at the time of use.
