PURPOSE: To obtain an activated and selective alkylation catalyst containing silica and an acidic phase containing sulfuric acid and a compound HB(HSO4 )4 , by impregnating the silica with the acidic phase, making the catalyst made of particles specified in average diameter and controlling the content of the acidic phase by weight to equal to or above a specific value. CONSTITUTION: This catalyst contains silica and an acidic phase containing sulfuric acid and a compound HB(HSO4 )4 , and the silica is impregnated with the acidic phase and the catalyst has substantially 0.1-150 μm average diameter. The content of the acidic phase by weight is >=40%, the silica before impregnated with the acidic phase has 0.5-6 cm<3> /g total porous volume and the acidic phase contains 0.4-68.8 wt.% compound, HB(HSO4 )4 , and 31.2-99.6 wt.% compound containing no sulfuric anhydride and boric acid. The compound, HB (HSO4 )4 , is obtained by the reaction of 1 mol boric acid with 3 mol sulfuric anhydride and 1 mol sulfuric acid. |
