PURPOSE: To obtain a high active catalyst by containing a Ni compound mixed with tertiary phosphine and partly dissolved in a non-aq. medium having ionic characteristic and resulting form allowing Al halide to contact with quaternary ammonium halide and/or quaternary phosphonium halide and an aromatic hydrocarbon. CONSTITUTION: At least one Ni compound mixed or complexed with at least one tertiary phosphine and partly dissolved in the non-aq. medium having the ionic characteristic and resulting from allowing at least one Al halide to contact with at least one quaternary ammonium halide and/or at least one quaternary phosphonium halide and at least one aromatic hydrocarbon is contained. As a result, the stable catalyst having high activity and high selectivity is obtained.
