PURPOSE:To obtain a catalyst capable of decomposing and removing dioxines already present in exhaust gas while suppressing the formation of dioxines from a dioxine precursor. CONSTITUTION:At least one kind of an element selected from a group consisting of Pt, Pd and Ir or oxide thereof is supported on silica/boria/alumina multiple oxides or zeolite wherein the mol ratio of silica to alumina is 30 or more as a catalyst component in an amt. of 0.1-10g per 1l of a catalyst to form the catalyst. By this method, the catalyst capable of decomposing and removing dioxines already present in exhaust gas while suppressing the formation of dioxines from dioxine precoursors and having a long life is obtained and the low outlet concn. of dioxines can be achieved.
