PURPOSE:To obtain an antiviral agent showing excellent activity especially against herpes simplex virus, comprising an extract of celastraceous plant as an active ingredient. CONSTITUTION:This antiviral agent comprises 5-100wt.% of an extract of celastraceous plant, preferably obtained by drying leaves, velamens or stems preferably of Maytenus ilicifolia Mart. belong to the genus Maytenus, extracting with an organic solvent (e.g. dichloromethane) and concentrating under reduced pressure, as an active ingredient. The antiviral agent can be pharmaceutically manufactured into tablet, powder, granule, capsule, syrup, dispersant, injection, troche, fine granule, external preparation, ointment, suppository, tape agent, etc. The daiy does is 0.1-200mg/kg and administered once to dividiedly five times daily. |
