PURPOSE: To provide a vehicle passenger constraining device which is prohibited from operation if crush occurs when a child seat is located with its back toward a vehicle seat. CONSTITUTION: Tag 60 made of amorphous is fixed to the bottom front end of a child seat 40 and an antenna coil 26 is built in the lower part of the back 28 of a vehicle seat. When the child seat is fixed to the vehicle seat with its back toward, the antenna coil and the tag are moved closer to each other so that the tag is oscillated by the effect of an EMF magnetic field generated from the antenna coil with the operation of a driving/receiving circuit 24 to supply a feedback EMF signal to the antenna coil. The feedback EMF signal is transformed into an electric signal which is supplied to a controller 22 via the driving/receiving circuit. Even when a crush sensor 85 detects crush, if there is the electric signal showing that the tab exists in the EMF magnetic field, the controller prohibits the energization of an air bag driving circuit 80 and prohibits the development of an air bag 90.
